A large, well illustrated volume celebrating the art and artefacts of the ancient world just before and just after the year one, accompanying an exhibition of the same title held at the Metropolitan Museum 2000-2001. After a general introduction and overview, chapters explore the Mediterranean World, the Roman Empire, West and Central Asia and the Americas. The short historical summaries are written by curators from the museum and include maps and colour photographs from the museum's collection.
