Oxbow says: Today, the acquisition of classical antiquities has gone beyond moral issues of the rights and wrongs involved, to questions of the legality of ownership, laws governing the antiquities trade and protecting cultural heritag, the issue of repatriation, whether new strategies are required for exhibiting material and educating the public. This collection of eight essays, delivered at a symposium held in 2007 at the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame, addresses these issues from a US perspective, including the views of museum directors, lawyers, art historians, curators and field archaeologists. Whilst most focus on the acquisition and exhibition of classical antiquities, the final essay looks at educating the public today and the archaeology of Iraq and Afghanistan.
