The Danube is one of the major European riovers, flowing through many diverse regions along its many thousands of kilometres long course. These studies, produced as part of the Danubius Project conducted by the Hungarian Academy of Science, cover the role of the Danube in linking peoples and regions, in promoting the interaction between them, or conversely, in acting as a natural barrier, during the vast period from Prehistory to the Middle Ages.
