The major geopolitical changes of the early twentieth century, particularly the destruction of Christian populations in the Pontus, indeed the whole of Asia Minor, shocked Catholic missionaries whose reports to Rome include frequent and occasionally extensive references to this issue. Theodosios Ar. Kyriakides’ original Greek work, now translated into English by Nikos G. Nikoloudis, is the result of years of research in the archives of the Roman Catholic Church, which contain previously unknown information on the Pontic region and the activities of the Roman Catholic Church therein. This information is now available in this important volume, which illuminates of the innerworkings of this dark episode in modern history.
